Veteran Community Priorities for 2025
The veteran community is an extraordinary group of individuals, encompassing service members, military spouses, and their families. This diverse group, which numbers over 17 million veterans, spans multiple generations—the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z. These courageous individuals, who have dedicated their lives to defending our nation, encounter unique challenges and opportunities throughout their post-military journeys.
As a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), Becker Digital is deeply committed to supporting the modern veteran community. Our military-connected team understands the sacrifices of service, and we are driven by the shared mission of ensuring our fellow veterans, their families, and caregivers receive the resources, care, and opportunities they earned through selfless service to our nation.
Looking ahead at the new year before us, here are a few key priorities for the veteran community in 2025:
Veteran Caregiver Support
Military and veteran caregivers—who are often spouses, family members, or close friends—play an essential role in supporting the physical and emotional health of wounded veterans. According to the RAND Corporation and the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, over 5.5 million caregivers provide support to veterans. Recent updates to the VA's Caregiver Support Program, including expanded eligibility for the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC), are steps in the right direction. However, more work is needed to improve caregiver access to resources and ensure these programs are delivered in an effective manner. Veteran caregivers provide an invaluable service to our nation and deserve robust programs to reduce burnout and provide long-term stability.
Veteran Education Opportunities
Education remains one of the most impactful tools for veteran reintegration and success. The Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act (the "Forever GI Bill"), along with outlined revisions via the Dole Act, expanded educational benefits for veterans and their families. These enhancements include the ability to transfer unused education benefits to dependents and increased flexibility in program types. However, barriers remain, especially in the realm of military spouse and disabled veteran education support. Additionally, last year, there were concerning and unpatriotic political movements to reduce state-level educational programs for the spouses and children of disabled veterans in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Prioritizing veteran educational accessibility in 2025 will not only honor their service but also strengthen the fabric of our nation.
Mental Health and Wellbeing of Veterans
Addressing veteran mental health is critical as the community faces high rates of suicide and challenges related to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Programs such as the VA’s Mission Daybreak initiative, which invests $20 million into suicide prevention efforts, and the expansion of veteran crisis intervention services and caregiver services, are pivotal steps forward in providing quality care and support for our veteran community. In addition, ensuring quality mental health services are delivered through VA programs, reducing stigma, increasing resource access, and supporting evidence-based therapies can help save lives. Supporting programs that emphasize early intervention and peer-to-peer support will remain a priority for the veteran community in the coming year.
Professional Advancement Resources for Veterans, Military Spouses, and Families
Veterans and their families often face barriers to stable employment. The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) has made strides in preparing service members for civilian careers, but gaps remain—especially for military spouses, who face unemployment rates nearly four times the national average. Vocational rehabilitation programs through the VA, along with employer incentives for hiring veterans, are crucial for reducing veteran unemployment. Becker Digital actively supports these efforts by promoting policies and training that help veterans and military spouses achieve sustainable professional success. Plus, as a veteran-owned company supporting a team of veterans and military spouses, we provide employment opportunities directly to the veteran community.
Quality Healthcare for the Multi-generational Veteran Community
Ensuring access to quality healthcare is a cornerstone of veteran support. Legislative advancements, such as the PACT Act, have expanded access to care for veterans exposed to toxins during their service, while programs like the Veterans Choice Program enable veterans to access private-sector healthcare when VA facilities are unavailable. This is incredibly important to support veterans in rural areas, where a VA hospital or clinic may be several hours away from their place of residence. 2025 presents an opportunity to improve and expand these programs further, including addressing gaps in caregiver coverage and ensuring the VA is equipped to handle the unique healthcare needs of a multigenerational veteran population.
